Plein Air Winner from TOSH
Guest contribution by Corinne James

Comox artist Brian Buckrell successfully defended his 2007 victory at the Old School House Art Centre Grand Prix d'Art competition in Qualicum Beach. This year 36 artists from across the Island and the Mainland competed with their en plein air paintings. Each artist picked a location in town out of a hat, and then, as the town clock struck 11:00am they began.
All paintings were framed and returned to the Gallery at 2 PM, and then the judging took place. This year's win brings continued recognition for Buckrell and is accompanied by generous prizes of cash and in-kind contributions (art supplies generously donated by Opus Framing & Art Supplies). Second Place went to Coquitlam artist Marjorie Turnbull, and Tanya Bone of Richmond placed Third. Honourable Mention went to Qualicum Beach artist Pauline Pike, Nanaimo artist John Hofman and White Rock artist Elizabeth Hollick.
The weather was perfect for painting, and the muse smiled on all the participants, as 17 paintings were sold on that very day upon completion of the judging. The paintings are on display at The Old School House Arts Centre until August 17th.

Thank you to the sponsoring businesses of Qualicum Beach, the TOSH volunteers, the artists and the community for making this one of the most successful Grand Prix d'Art events ever.
