Island Mountain Arts' Toni Onley Artists' Project

Island Mountain Arts School of the Arts is pleased to announce scholarship opportunities for visual artists to participate in the 2008 Toni Onley Artists' Project for Professional and Emerging Artists, which runs from Saturday, July 19 - Sunday, July 27 (with a day off in the middle), however artists can choose to participate in a shorter four-day session (July 19 - 22). Two four-day scholarships, valued at $430, are available.
The 2008 program will feature the internationally renowned Canadian artists, David T. Alexander and Peter von Tiesenhausen as senior mentors. Alexander's work has received recognition from curators and critics worldwide. His provocative approach to landscape painting directly challenges many of the conventions associated with this genre. Alexander also brings to the project over twenty years of experience in providing mentorship and has participated in numerous residencies across the country.
Artists participating in the Toni Onley Artists' Project are provided studio space in the large airy classrooms of the Wells/Barkerville School. An intensive studio experience and a forum for artists to explore and develop their ideas in relation to visual arts practice, the artists project has been of great value to those who have taken part. The senior artist mentors, with their vast knowledge and experience as working professional visual artists in Canada and internationally, will provide insight to artists keen to promote their artistic practice and spur the production of new bodies of work.
We are also pleased to announce that in partnership with the Art Gallery of the South Okanagan in Penticton, one participant will be selected to have a solo exhibition in their project room.
More information about the project and application process can be found on the Island Mountain Arts website www.imarts.com. The deadline to apply is May 9th, 2008.
