Vancouver Celebrates International Women's Day with The Great Adventure!

Vancouver, BC - To recognize the adventures and achievements of women in the film and television industry, Women in Film and Television Vancouver will celebrate International Women's Day (March 8th) with a week of special events from Feb 29 - March 8, 2008.
The 3rd Annual Women in Film Festival kicks off with the Female Film Frenzy, a 48-hour film contest, and culminates with the 8th Annual Spotlight Awards Gala, honouring key contributors to our local industry. More than 40 films from around the world, showcasing women's voices and stories will be screened at the Vancity Theatre in Downtown Vancouver.

Highlights of this year's festival include:
- The 2nd annual Female Film Frenzy (Feb 29 - March 2): An opportunity for local film teams to make a film and make a difference by supporting local women's organizations. Films will be screened on Friday, March 7th during the film festival.
- More than 40 films screened! Starting with a special presentation on Tuesday, March 4 of Carolyn Combs' Acts of Imagination and continuing from Thursday March 6 through Saturday, March 8 with such gems as:

Sharron Bates' inspirational Strong Coffee: The Story of Café Femenino
Tracy D. Smith's romantic comedy Taming Tammy
Sylvie Rosenthal's eye-opening Mommy, Mommy
Screen Siren's topical Reservation Soldiers - "Rules for Renegade Women" Career Seminar (March 7) with self-made millionaire and renegade entrepreneur Christine Comaford-Lynch.
- The Women of Studio D: a special presentation (March 8) with Professor Gail Vanstone.
- The World Poetry Reading Series will perform live for our Kudos Screening (March 8)

- The 8th Annual Spotlight Awards Gala (March 8): This unique event celebrates the pioneering spirit of British Columbian women in film, television and entertainment technologies. The evening features an awards presentation, VIP cocktail reception, entertainment, sponsor exhibits and a fabulous silent auction, set in the chic, urban environment of the Vancity Theatre, Vancouver's premier film festival venue.
