Festival of the Arts Returns to Port Moody
By Eran Norton, Festival Coordinator

It's almost that time of year again - time for the 11th Annual Port Moody Festival of the Arts. Plans are in high gear to bring yet another artistically excellent and colourfully entertaining line-up to this year's festival, which takes place from April 4-13, 2008. For these 10 days, Port Moody will be alive with music, dance, comedy, visual arts, film, art studio tours and other artistic pursuits as performers and artists from across Canada and around the world gather to show off their talents.
Some traditional festival favourites will be returning, including a new exhibit from the Coquitlam Weavers' Guild entitled "Going Green - Reduce, Reuse Recycle" at the Civic Centre Galleria and the ArtsConnect Studio Tours on April 12/13. The Blackberry Gallery at the Port Moody Arts Centre will be featuring 3 exhibits: David Pacholko's "Art of the Heart" (acrylic) "BC in a Box - Finger Play" by the Potters Guild of British Columbia (clay art) and Marina Yanen's "Music in the Air" (acrylic on wood). The festival is also presenting an international art exhibit from China, also at the Civic Centre Galleria.

Art 4 U Day, a hands-on family-friendly event, will also be returning to the festival on Sunday April 6th. Plans are in the works for great interactive activities including Raku pottery, children's crafts, live artisan demonstrations, roving entertainment and much more.
Also not to be missed are the many performing arts presentations at this year's festival including the Opening Night Champagne Gala featuring soul diva Divine Brown, singer/songwriters Aspen Switzer & Penny Lang on April 5th, lead-singer of Wide Mouth Mason, Shaun Verreault on April 6th, celtic legend Will Millar of The Irish Rovers on April 12th, and children's entertainers Bobs & Lolo on April 13th. The line-up keeps growing so keep your eye on www.pomoartsfestival.ca for further updates.

The Port Moody Festival of the Arts has something for everyone whether you are a music lover or a visual arts connoisseur. Tickets for all events will be available to the general public on March 12, 2008 and can be purchased through the Port Moody Arts Centre box office (2425 St. Johns St, Port Moody or 604-931-2008).
