Mission Arts Council Fraser Valley Children's Festival

The Mission Arts Council Annual Fraser Valley Children's Festival. takes place on Sunday, June 22, 2008. This event has become a tradition at Fraser River Heritage Park, marking the beginning of summer for many members of the community.

This years theme, UNDERWATER EXTREME will see Heritage Park come alive in an underwater fantasy. Local school children will adore the trees and structures with sea creatures from the deep, the Vancouver Aquarium's Aqua Van will have kids squealing in delight when they hold a sea cucumber and learn about their environment, the sounds of music fills the air and the beat of drums and dance get the feet stompin! There are craft and clay stations to make under sea creatures and costumes, the Park will be filled with children just having fun.

Mission Arts Council Fraser Valley Children's Festival

The Festival is an all day affair; from 10 am to 4 pm. Children can take part in finger painting, creative craft making at the imagination market to making their own music. This day is one many children look forward to with great enthusiasm!

This year's event marks our 12th anniversary. Some of the entertainers booked include Mike Battie, Masabo African Drummers and Dancers, the Korean Drummers, Sand the one woman circus and much more...

Sand the One Woman Circus
A hilarious children's comedian with a circus flare. Sand brings laughter for al ages. Juggler, unicyclist, stilter and clown Sand Northrup brings a flare for the fabulous to any festive occasion. One Woman Circus offers a wealth of entertainment and educational options to enliven your event. Available en Français or English, and the Language of Laughter.

Mike Battie Physical Comedian
A fire juggling, stilt walkin interactive show. A master at making you laugh!!

Evelyn Roths Nylon Zoo
The NYLON ZOO is a choreographed participatory event - you are the dancers and performers! Fly like a bird, hop as a frog or rabbit, twirl in a rainbow cape, swim like a fish, bobble like a hoopla mushroom. The costumes fit all ages from 2 to 102 and are designed to make you move. It's an interactive story event as children and parents enter the giant inflatable storytelling theatre.

Each inflatable is stitched from hundreds of pieces of nylon fabric which creates a rich stained glass effect inside. The belly of each creature will hold a group of 50 spell bound children, parents and teachers for a short story, song or music, chosen to reflect the Festival's theme

Masabo Culture Company
There is an explosion of energy when Masabo hits the stage! This dynamic ensemble formed of hereditary West African master musicians and dancers fill the air with soaring melodies and driving rhythms. This is entertainment at its finest as the ancient arts of West Africa are brought to life on stage. Masabo is a feast of traditional songs and stories, athletic dance and absolutely stunning musicianship. Audiences quickly jump to their feet, beaming as they dance and sing to this celebration of life. Masabo brings thousands of years of African history to the stage with power and passion that are not to be missed!
