Art On The Street Festival

BC Day On Granville Island

Art On The Street Festival Logo

Granville Island is "taking it to the streets" with our first ever "Art on the Street Festival". What better way to celebrate 150 years of our British Columbia heritage than to have a festival in one of BC's most vibrant and creative communities. We invite our neighbors and visitors from around the world to come and enjoy the diversity that is Granville Island with our Best of BC program packed with a variety of FREE fun filled activities for people of all ages.

The Art on the Street Festival was created to showcase everything BC from the art of making sake to the art of sculpture. It is designed and dedicated to those that create and those that appreciate art in all its various forms. Come meet and talk with the artists as they work on the streets of Granville Island. Whether you love glass, jewelry, leather, printmaking, painting, photography, sculpture, wood, ceramics or fiber, you are destined to find art to fall in love with.

Things kick off with a "Berry BC Breakfast" at the Dockside Restaurant featuring blueberry pancakes with $1 from each meal sold going to Lasting Magic. There are FREE hands on activities for everyone. Paint a piece of a Hilary Morris painting at Giant Jigsaws which Opus Framing & Art Supplies has graciously donated all the art supplies for, sign BC's Biggest Birthday Card with markers donated by Opus Framing & Art Supplies with where you are from and what you like best about BC, watch professional artists chalk BC images on huge vertical cement walls or have your face painted. Buy a picnic lunch at Edible BC and take in a performance of "605 Collective" as they take Urban Hip-Hop dancing to the streets or a gourmet picnic lunch from La Baguette while you watch Aboriginal Dancers' perform. Experience Chinese traditional dance and music or watch martial art performances. Learn how to make an illusion necklace or the art of wrapping beads at Beadworks or how to weave with kelp or do paper marbling at the Crafthouse. See glassblowing demonstrations in the hot shop at New-Small & Sterling or watch papermaking demonstrations at Textile Context Studio. Browse through the outdoor craft fair in triangle square before you catch one of Vancouver TheatreSports Leagues' comedy improv performances. Have author Duane Lawrence sign your copy of "Sammy Squirrel & Rodney Raccoon: A Stanley Park Tale" at Blackberry Books, view the unique BC Day ikebana arrangements at the Dockside Patio or take in the International Mini Print Show at Dundarave Print Workshop. Watch Jack Darcus create landscapes in the egg tempera medium or silk worms and weavers at the Silk Weaving Studio. Listen to a tale told by a storyteller, learn leather decorating techniques from Rudi Diesvelt at Circle Craft or taste sweet non-alcoholic "amazake" at the Artisan Sakemaker. Wrap up the day with dinner at the Sandbar or Bridges with their BC fresh sheets. There is something here to tempt all of your senses!

On August 4th, come to BC's Birthday Party on Granville Island. We will host an incredible day long celebration of all things BC. Save the date!
