Artful Sundays and the 'Art of Tea'
Guest contribution by Katherine Polgrain

Artful Sundays will return to Napier Square (Napier at Commercial Drive in Vancouver) for six Sundays beginning July 27 through August 31st from noon-5pm. Hosted by Britannia Community Centre, it is an outdoor, multimedia visual arts market featuring the work of local artists, artist demonstrations and workshops, live music and "The Art Of Tea."
Each week "The Art Of Tea" tent will present a different tea vendor and artist on site with tea samples, demonstrations, tea-themed art, teaware, specialty teas and a tea leaf reader. Launching the Sunday markets on July 27th will be Christine Zoltok with her teacup soy candles. Christine uses vintage tea cups and 100% soy wax to create her candles. On August 10th, Suzanne Summersgill from Pinn Studio will be featured with her teabag paintings. These are exquisitely detailed miniature paintings with a fun and whimsical twist. There are also plans to explore the health benefits of specific teas. Patrons will be encouraged to sample teas in the café setting of the art market, a wonderful stop for a Sunday afternoon on the Drive.

For centuries drinking tea has been a cultural tradition that has inspired artistic expression in a variety of mediums. The public is invited to view how local artists move beyond the form and function of traditional shapes and create works of art that inspire. Come by and participate in an East Vancouver tea experience!
