Cherry Blossom Festival Announces:
Plein-Air Painting Classes at VanDusen Botanical Garden
Guest contribution by Nita Wardlow

A talented team of teaching artists including Alfonso Tejada, Bob McMurray, Teressa Bernard and Zshu-Zshu Mark will lead the Plein-Air Painting classes as part of this spring's Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival. The Festival's new home at VanDusen Botanical Garden is the perfect place to paint outdoors - 'en plein-air'.
On four consecutive Saturdays from March 29 to April 19 (11 am to 2 pm), the adult classes will start at the Glass House and fan out in search of Van Dusen's peak blooms. An April 19th children's session (11 am to 2 pm) will be team taught by Yoriko Takui and Krystie Baballos under the blossoms at the edge of the water park on Granville Island.
Local architect and urban designer, Tejada says, "We are proud to present such a talented and qualified group of instructors." Tejada, McMurray and Bernard are Federation of Canadian Artists and professional instructors in various painting techniques. The Festival welcomes new artists, Zshu-Zshu Mark, Yoriko Takui and Krystie Baballos and the fresh energy they bring to the program. The sessions will cover essential skills needed by aspiring artists from beginner to advanced in various media including watercolour, acrylics, oil and sketching.
Registration is now open for all plein-air classes. Prices for adults are $45 for one class or $150 for all four sessions. The April 19th children's class costs $30. Visit our website at www.vcbf.ca to print out the registration form and mail your cheque to the address indicated.
Also on our website, www.vcbf.ca, check out other ways to celebrate the blossoming of our cherry trees with the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival: "Tree Talks and Walks" in city parks, "Cherry Jam Downtown", "The Cherry Trolley Tours" and "Bike the Blossoms" are popular Festival events.
Or celebrate spring by writing a haiku for the international "Haiku Invitational."
