Come to the Art Beat Gallery in St. Albert, Alberta from August 4th to September 4th to view Ina-Griet Raatz-von Hirschhausen paintings. Ina's painting style started with a commission in the style of Italian painter Amedeo Modigliani. She has kept the simple lines he used in his portraits, and adopted the striking facial expressions in her animal portraits. There is an opening reception on Thursday, August 7th. The Joseph Plaskett Award
The Joseph Plaskett Award is awarded to a Canadian graduate student of painting, receiving $25,000 to travel and study abroad, emulating the award given to Joseph early in his career. In Vancouver, on May 23rd, Joseph Plaskett presented the award to Nam Duc Nguyen with the 2008 award. Beginning in 2009, the award, will be administered and presented by the British Columbia Achievement Foundation, a foundation established by the Province of BC to celebrate both nationally and provincially excellence in the arts, humanities and community service.
