Library and local artist join forces to present Art Down Under
Guest contribution by Lois Peterson
In May, twenty Lower Mainland children will have the chance to work with internationally renowned artist Ron G. Steven to create works of art. Their creations will be exhibited in the community then auctioned on May 24th to raise funds to benefit The Surrey Public Library and a local environmental group.
This innovative partnership between Mr. Steven (aka Rogest, pictured above) and The Surrey Public Library will engage the young artists in an all-day workshop where they will learn about marine ecology, population diversity, aboriginal traditions, as well as acrylic painting techniques and writing skills.
The pieces created will be exhibited at the Semiahmoo branch of the Surrey Public Library.
The twenty participants were selected through an application process that involved writing a short essay describing why they would want to be included in this unique experience.
Complete details of Art Down Under, are posted at the library's website at www.spl.surrey.bc.ca
