Simon Cantin
Granville Island, Saturday March 3rd, 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Soapstone Carving ~ Simon will demonstrate Brazilian Soapstone carving, how to get started and when to use specific tools such as chisels, rasps, files, sandpaper and at what stage of the carving to use them.
A cartographer by trade, his thorough knowledge and understanding of the 2D and 3D plane really helps him in visualizing and creating his carvings. ABC's of Airbrushing ~ Watch Scott demonstrate how to airbrush by taking an airbrush painting from start to finish. Scott is a local Langley high school art teacher and has been painting professionally for 14 years.
Much of Scott's work is colour and design based, with the emphasis on strong shapes and the relationship of those shapes to the negative space surrounding them. Scott also enjoys his garden, and takes inspiration from there also. His emphasis on colour can be seen in his giraffe series. Scott loves a good pun, so often he tries to capture humor in his work in the form of a visual pun or through animating the everyday stuff around him. Watercolours Loose and Free ~ Let the water and pigment efforlessly create beautiful paintings for you. Lori will demonstrate controlled wet-on-wet painting techniques with the creation of vivid florals and atmospheric landscapes.

A Trip to the Neighbourhood ~ Barbara is well-known for capturing the details of Victoria's architecture and neighbourhoods. Come watch as she continues work on the latest in her Neighbourhood series. She uses acrylic paint for her works on watercolour paper, canvas and panels.

Painting the Western Wilderness ~ Murray will demonstrate his techniques to capture the beauty of nature on canvas. He will also discuss some of the ways he goes about painting the wilderness on site and collecting information. Murray's work is on display at The Westwind Art Gallery in Langley, a short walk from Opus Langley's location.
Most of Murray's paintings reflect his love of the western wilderness. He spends several months of the year painting and photographing nature, and several months in his camper and sailboat exploring and painting isolated areas of western wilderness. We will give you some watercolour paint, a blank postcard and 5 minutes to complete a work of art — that's right, just 5 minutes of unrelenting creativity!Special guest Kari Foteff from Strathmore Artist Papers will be on hand to help guide you through this fun and exciting challenge. We will provide all the supplies, all you need to bring is your artistic spirit!
When: Opus Granville Island on Friday, March 9th, from 1:00pm-3:00pm and Saturday, March 10th, from 10:00am-12:00pm.
Your completed postcard will be proudly displayed in a salon exhibition at our Granville Island store, then returned to you via mail. Take note, prizes will be awarded and bragging rights are at stake. All ages are welcome!
