Exceptional Artists Highlight Plein-Air at
Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival
The Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival is proud to present a diverse group of artists, each bringing a unique perspective on plein-air painting. Members of Vancouver's visual arts community, including commercial gallery directors, will explore plein-air painting through a panel discussion March 17 at VanDusen Gardens, followed by 5 Saturday classes from March 24 to April 21 at locations throughout the city.
Federation of Canadian Artist (FCA) instructors will present their individual approaches to plein-air in various media — watercolour, acrylics, and oil. They represent a cross section of Vancouver's art community — emerging and established artists, various professional disciplines and cultural backgrounds.
Both the Plein-Air Blossom Painting classes and the round table provide a rare chance to work alongside these established artists — Barrie Chadwick, Elizabeth Harris-Nichols, Jak Serrequi, Liza Visagie — to learn how their artistic vision is influenced by plein-air. Teressa Bernard, Robert McMurray, and Leslie McGuffin are also slated as instructors. Visit our website for details about these fine artists and to view their work.
Round Table Moderator Alfonso Tejada, (AFCA) architect, urban designer, and plein-air artist explains his passion for outdoor painting as a way to "express a moment in time when Nature touches the soul."
Greg Bellerby, Emily Carr's Charles H. Scott Gallery Curator, and Tahina Awan, Diane Farris Gallery Director, will provide an academic and commercial perspective at the Round Table.
