Coffee & Cupcakes for a Cause – $686.14 Raised!
On Saturday, April 28th, Opus Framing & Art Supplies hosted a staff bake sale, which was held in conjunction with our annual warehouse sale. All proceeds were donated to the Downtown Eastside Women's Centre's WEAVE program. There were a wide variety of delectable treats ranging from cookies to pies, all provided by Opus staff members. In total we raised $343.07 – and Opus has matched that amount with a gift card for art supplies! Thank you to everyone who indulged in a delicious baked good and donated to this great project.
Women Engaged in the Arts, Vision & Empowerment (WEAVE) offers the women of the Downtown Eastside opportunities for self-expression. The WEAVE program includes weekly art workshops where women can experiment with different art mediums such as: painting, printmaking, drawing and sculpture. WEAVE provides monthly group art projects, which in addition to teaching art techniques, builds relationships through the teamwork needed to create one unified art piece. WEAVE also provides women with visiting artist lectures, which enables them to begin a dialogue about their artwork, their art process and their lives. WEAVE organizes field trips, such as viewing other artists' studios to further inspire participants. One truly unique initiative aims to enable the extension of any art practice through a mobile art studio (a bicycle with a cart full of fun art supplies), which can visit different women's organizations throughout the Downtown Eastside.
