Inspired by the Cherry Tree
To the enthusiast, plein-air painting means painting from life — absorbing the sights, sounds and atmosphere of the natural setting, then transferring these sensations to the canvas. What better way to celebrate Spring's arrival than painting and sketching under a canopy of cherry blossoms!
Vancouver's 2nd Annual Cherry Blossom Festival presents an introductory round table discussion, March 17th on plein-air blossom painting, followed by five plein-air painting sessions on locations throughout the city.
Round table participants will join plein-air master, architect and urban designer, Alfonso Tejada and other artists to explore the meaning and approach to plein-air painting. "The Round Table discussion will inspire artists to capture views of the townscape uniquely created by the brief life of the cherry blossoms in our city." (Alfonso Tejada)
On five Saturdays starting March 24th, participants will follow the peak bloom around Vancouver's most spectacular displays of cherry blossoms in our parks and boulevards under the direction of local plein-air teaching artists. Watch our website for information about the new "Plein Air for Children Class" on Saturday, April 21.
Registration opens January 8th for painters of all ages, level of experience and preferred media. To register for the round table discussion (March 17) and plein-air blossom painting sessions (March 24, 31 and April 7, 14 and 21) visit our website at www.vcbf.ca The round table is free of charge and registration to each Saturday painting session (11am-2pm) is $40. Dates subject to change.
