Studio Space Available, Vernon BC

Are you interested in joining a dynamic network of artists? Or creating work in an open setting that allows gallery visitors to speak with you about your work? Gallery Vertigo has studio space available immediately for $75 a month, which includes 24hr access and kitchen facilities. Studio artists are required to sit at the gallery a maximum of one day per week from 11am-4pm (negotiable) and some light volunteer duties. After School Art Classes, Westbank BC

Learn how to draw wildlife, pets and/or still life. Students will be drawing using pastels, and can advance to watercolours or acrylic paints. You can join for the entire program or monthly. For The Birds, Tsawwassen BC, February 3rd

With this winter's wild weather, The South Delta Artists Guild is helping with a great cause to help OWL (Orphaned Wildlife) Rehabilitation Society aid with the extensive damage they have suffered this winter. The guild members are busy creating colourful, small and exotic birdhouses to be sold at their Open House on Saturday, February 3rd from 1pm-3:30pm. All proceeds of the birdhouse sales will be donated to OWL. OWL will be in attendance and with one or more raptors. There will also be paintings of birds for sale by guild members as well. The Tsawwassen gallery is located at 1710 56th Street.

Join Mindy Abramowitz, an accountant and controller for a range of arts nonprofits and other small businesses in Vancouver, will be holding a workshop on Saturday, February 10th from 10am-12pm. This workshop is aimed at artists and creative professionals who have little to no experience preparing taxes. New Exhibit, Kelowna BC, February 22nd and 24th

The Kelowna Museum invites the public to participate in the Grand Opening of "Equus Caballus" (latin for horse), which runs from February 22nd to June 16th and features Jane Everett's work focusing on the theme of the thoroughbred race horse. The entire exhibition traces the relationship between horse and human from the earliest artistic markings through to modernity. On February 24th from 11am-3pm, there will be a hands-on drawing activity called "Make Your Mark". Visitors will be able to use the same materials that Jane uses in the exhibit. Community Project Seeks Artist(s), Kelowna BC, Deadline is Friday, February 16th at 5pm

The City of Kelowna is seeking the services of a visual artist or artists to complete a canvas mural, which has been already worked on by a number of artists. The mural is of raw unframed canvas, 7x10 feet in size. The theme of this piece is "My Dream for Kelowna is’Ķ" There is a $500 honorarium for the completion of the mural. The Gibraltar Point Residency Program takes place from June 1st to 30th and is open to Canadian and International artists working in all disciplines who are engaged in the research, development or creation of work. Emerging, mid-career and established professional artists are invited to apply for this residency. You will receive accommodation, private work studio and all meals at no cost. The Opus Visual Arts Newsletter welcomes submissions related to calls for submissions, fundraising initiatives, art events, and unique art initiatives being undertaken by non-profit visual arts organizations or groups, with a focus on Canadian art practices and events occurring within Western Canada predominately.

We try to include all submissions we receive, however due to space restrictions this is not always possible. Late submissions will be considered for our online newsletter.
