The Story of Kamloops
Presenting the South Kamloops Secondary School 2007 Art Show
Our concept, "The Story of Kamloops," is to portray Kamloops' unique memories and history through the eyes of young artists. Each student has chosen an individual and unique subject, a personal enthusiasm and personality is displayed in each story-painting.
Over 90 students at South Kamloops Secondary had the opportunity to research, paint, frame, curate, and exhibit their stories of Kamloops. This process, along with carefully prepared artist statements, has been an enjoyable experience that goes beyond the qualities of creativity, self-expression and communication. Art is hard work. The outcome provides personal fulfillment, social recognition, and celebration of the past and present of our community.
Through the help of a community jury, a selection of these artworks is being printed in a full colour calendar: The Story of Kamloops 2008 - 2009.

Truthful to their commitment in supporting visual arts in communities, SKSS students are excited and thankful to have received art supplies from Opus. This donation of acrylic paint and primed canvas has made a difference in not only the quality of products that students can experience, but proof that art education is valuable.
The Story of Kamloops Exhibition will be on display in the Old Court House from November 15th - 23rd. Proceeds from the sale of these calendars will go towards the Kamloops Food Bank, the Creating Tomorrow Fund, and the SKSS Fine Arts Department for future art initiatives.
