Artists In Our Midst For 15 YEARS!
This year, Artists in our Midst celebrates 15 years of open studio tours. Starting in 1993 with artists Anne Adams and Pnina Granirer, artists living in the Point Grey area were invited to participate in a weekend open studio tour. Since then, over 60 artists in the neighbourhoods of Dunbar/Kerrisdale, West Point Grey and Kitsilano have shared art with their neighbours and created a sense of community living.
Many former and new artists will be a part of this year's event showcasing painting, drawing, clay, fibre arts, and more. Not only will visitors have a chance to view unique artwork, they will enjoy diverse live performances, palm readers, and the opportunity to join the creative process in the form of collages, rubbings and drawings they can make themselves.
Pnina Granirer, one of the shows organizers and originators says, "Now, in its 15th year, Artists in Our Midst is proceeding with renewed enthusiasm and with the knowledge that it contributes greatly to the awareness of art in the community. It has become an inspiration to other groups of artists, such as the Eastside Culture Crawl and Artists Among Us."
Apart from meeting the artists, getting involved with the community and admiring so many wonderful works, delighted visitors enjoy the simple pleasure of seeing the universe in which these artists work. Artists in Our Midst gives everyone a window to the world in which an artist creates, captures a mood and leaves something beautiful behind for all of us to enjoy.
The event will happen over three consecutive weekends on the following dates:
Dunbar/Kerrisdale: April 14th and 15th, 12pm-6pm
Preview Exhibition: Friday, April 13th, 7pm-9pm at St Mary's Anglican Church, 2490 West 37th Avenue
West Point Grey: April 21st and 22nd, 12pm-6pm
Preview Exhibition: Friday, April 20th, 7pm-9pm at West Point Grey Community Centre, 4397 West 2nd Avenue
West Point Grey: April 28th and 29th, 12pm-6pm
Preview Exhibition: Friday, April 27th, 7pm-9pm at Vancouver Museum, 1100 Chestnut Street
