State of Art Show and Sale and the Capital Arts Festival
October 5th to October 18th
More than just beautiful scenery and politics, Victoria is also home to a large number of practicing professional artists. The region boasts talent in all disciplines. This Fall marks the launch of the Capital Arts Festival which celebrates the work of musicians, dancers, actors, visual artists and writers from the Greater Victoria Regional District. This event will take place in many venues throughout the region from formal exhibition space to intimate restaurants.
Featured in the Capital Arts Festival is the 1st Annual State of Art Show and Sale. This community event showcasing contemporary art, takes place at the Community Arts Council of Greater Victoria, G6-1001 Douglas Street in Victoria, BC. The exhibit includes works by Carron Berkes (papier mâché sculpture), Erin Chard (watercolor painting), Pat Cook (mixed media), Nancy Dolan (photography), Ray Franklin (wood turning), Lenny de Groot (fiber art), David Ladmore (oil painting), Gord Langston (sculpture), Lindy MacArthur (acrylic painting), Pauline Olesen (fused glass), Avis Rasmussen (printmaking), Jenn Robins (printmaking), Muriel Sibley (ceramic sculpture) and Rob Vickery (mixed media). Admission is free.
The public is invited to meet the artists and enjoy live music by guitarist John MacArthur at an opening night gala on Saturday October 7th from 6:00pm-10:00pm.
Visitors to the State of Art Show and Sale can vote in The People's Choice Award. Each ballot cast will be entered into a draw for a chance to win a 1-night stay, including a 3-course dinner for two at the Sooke Harbour House Hotel, Restaurant, Gallery and Spa. Winners will be announced on Wednesday, October 18, 2006.
The artist who wins the People's Choice Award will receive a gift basket of art supplies donated by Opus Framing & Art Supplies. The State of Art Show and Sale takes place from October 5th to October 18th from 10:00am-5:00pm daily. Admission is free.
