The Three Links Care Centre, a 90 bed complex care facility, is in desperate need of volunteers to be part of their art classes for some of their residents. The time commitment of the volunteer would be about 2 hrs per week for about 3 months. Three Links is located at 2934 E. 22nd Ave, Vancouver (across from the Renfrew Community Centre). The 39th Annual Art Show and Sale of Original Paintings

Call to Visual Artists

The North Vancouver Community Arts Council is seeking 2-dimensional artists to submit for the annual intake of new artwork for the Art Rental Program. Artists may bring up to 5 pieces of art, properly framed and wired, to CityScape Community Art Space, 335 Lonsdale Avenue, on Sunday, November 26th between 9:30am-11:30am. Unaccepted artwork can be picked up between 2pm-3pm. Accepted artwork will remain within the art rental collection for a minimum of one year. There is a $15 jury fee. Royalties for art rented will be paid to artists semi-annually. There are two art rental exhibitions of the entire collection during the year, the first being from January 4th to 20th, 2007. Let's get painting

The North Vancouver Community Arts Council and CityScape Community Art Space are very excited to announce the second annual "Anonymous Art Show", an exhibition and fundraiser that will include both emerging and established 2-dimensional artists working strictly on unframed 8" x 8" x 1-1/2" back stapled canvas. The paintings will be sold anonymously, but the artist may sign the back of their painting. All paintings will be priced at $100 each. The exhibition runs from November 30th to December 17th so start your Christmas shopping early. To participate, blank canvases are available for sale at 335 Lonsdale Avenue, North Vancouver, B.C. starting Monday, September 18th. Deadline for completed canvases is Sunday, November 18th at 4:30pm. Submissions are limited to three canvases per artist. Eastside Culture Crawl

The annual non-juried art festival, resulting in a fascinating mélange of personalities, approaches, styles, mediums and studios is once again here. In all, thirty-eight buildings will be bursting with the artwork of a staggering 300 artists. The artists' studios are situated on the Eastside in the area bounded by Main St., East 1st and Terminal Avenue, Commercial Drive, and North to the waterfront. The dates of the crawl are on Friday, November 24th from 5pm-10pm, Saturday, November 25th from 11am-6pm, and Sunday, November 26th from 11am-6pm. New this year are the volunteers giving advice and directions, and with the purchase of a $2 button, a bus will shuttle people to outlying studios, departing from the Eastside Culture Crawl Information Booth, and at the Strathcona Community Centre, 601 Keefer Street.

4th Zoroastrian and Iranian Culture Film Festival

Ancient Persian and Culture short and long films are shown during this one day event. Every film will be shown once only. Most are in English or have English sub-titles. Except for 5 films, the majority of the films are non-fiction. Prominent films like "Persepolis Recreated" from the USA and animation of "Rostam Re-birth" from the U.K. are shown for the first time in Vancouver. A few films from India will also be screened. Tickets are $12 for the whole day and are sold at the box office at Kay Meek Centre, 1700 Mathers Avenue, West Vancouver on November 19th from 4pm-10pm (subject to change slightly). 11th Annual "Artsolutely Fabulous" fundraiser

On November 25th, the Community Arts Council of White Rock and District is presenting the fundraiser. Artists and art patrons can enjoy the opportunity to view and discuss the available works, and each $400 ticket entitles either the individual or couple to a piece of original art donated by such artists as Mike Svob, Richard Tetrault, Richard McDiarmid, Bob McMurray, Alan Wylie, Janice Robertson and Sheila Symington. Art is chosen through a numbered draw. Many artists also donate paintings for the silent auction. Parti al proceeds of the silent auction sales are returned to the artist. The Fraser Valley Watercolour Society will feature a wide range of paintings by local artists in a show at The Kariton Gallery in Abbotsford from Sunday, November 26th until Wednesday, December 20th. The Richmond Art Gallery presents a members' only self-portrait exhibition and silent auction on display from November 8th to December 14th at 180 - 7700 Minoru Gate in Richmond. Tribute Wall

St. Paul's Hospital Foundation is sponsoring a competition for an artist to design or paint a mural for their baby wall outside the maternity department. The "baby" wall will reside in the maternity department where family can purchase tiles to celebrate a child's birth. Funds raised will support the urgently needed equipment for this ward. The hospital is seeking a talented artist to design and ultimately create the baby wall. Artists with all levels of experience are invited to apply. All works must be original. Submissions must be received no later than 5pm on Friday, November 24th, 2006. The Arts Club Theatre Company is looking for visual artists to participate in our silent art auction fundraisers for the 2006/2007 season. For every production at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage, we curate an exhibit in the lobby of the theatre, which runs for the duration of each production. While attending the show, patrons will have the opportunity to bid on the artwork selected. Artists receive 25% of the final bid, a 75% tax receipt, and invaluable exposure. Hidden Heroes: Women Survivors of Violence

September 29 - November 12, 2006

View inspirational and thought-provoking artwork by BC/Yukon college and university art students exploring the strength and resiliency of female survivors of violence. The project goal is to increase public awareness of the government-appointed Prevention of Violence Against Women Week. The BC/Yukon Society of Transition House developed this initiative in order to introduce the topic of violence against women to post-secondary art students interested in using art as a tool for social change. Students from the following institutions participated in the province-wide juried competition: University College of the Fraser Valley, North Island College, University of Victoria, UBC Okanagan, College of New Caldeonia, Malaspina College, UBC, BCIT, Langara College and Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design.

A Traditional Christmas

Access Artist Run Centre is pleased to present this show by Vancouver artist Diyan Achjabi. Achjadi's work explores depictions of violence and militarism in news, pop-culture and children's media, and in particular the ways that militaristic attributes can be portrayed as benign, decorative, and seductive. Alcheringa Gallery

The upcoming fall exhibition titled "Rhythms of the Garamut" is a pre-eminent example of the contemporary artistry of Pacific Rim cultures. Strategies for Teaching Art

Gallery Vertigo is offering a rare opportunity for artists wanting to further their employment opportunities. The series entitled "Strategies For Teaching Art" will train artists to plan and present fine art and craft workshops in institutional settings such as public art galleries and arts centres, as well as privately. The Grand Forks Art Gallery is inviting artists in all media to submit up to 5 works for their 2nd Annual Exhibition of Small Works. All works must be framed and under $200.
