Guest contribution by Nicole Barton

Founded in 1999, The Famous Open Door Studio Society is the north shore's only non-profit, artist-run visual arts organization. The City and the District of North Vancouver have generously supported the Open Door throughout their history of innovative artistic happenings.

The Famous Open Door Studio Society and Director Nicole Barton invite you to join our strong group of artists to help make The north shore a thriving artistic community. The hope of Open Door is to smooth out the long bumpy road to becoming a professional artist by giving opportunities for artists: from life drawing sessions; to talks and workshops on developing a career as a professional artist; to exhibit space at many local venues in and around the North Shore.

With the holiday season quickly approaching, Famous Open Door will be Celebrating by having an art exhibit called "The Art of Giving" at Bella Candela Restaurant, 109 West Esplanade in North Vancouver. 10% of all sales will go the Harvest Project. The show will run December to January.

On Monday nights, The Famous Open Door Studio Society hosts non-instructional three-hour Life Drawing sessions from 6:30pm to 9:30pm and drop-in fee is $15. Sessions are currently being held at Bad Dog Studios, 364 B E Esplanade in North Vancouver (entrance in the back alley).

What does the future hold for Open Door? In 2007 the City of North Vancouver is celebrating its centennial year! The Famous Open Door will help the city celebrate the future by showcasing great art from the north shore's finest young artists. Exhibits will run in April, May and June at The Centennial Theatre and Bella Candela Restaurant. All youth from the City of North Vancouver area will be invited to participate in the event. We welcome you to come on through the Famous Open Door and experience some of North Vancouver's local culture.
