What is your holiday project made of?

Let your creativity sparkle!

Try your hand at card making—here is just one simple project to try in your own home or studio:

BLOCK PRINTING:

Opus' lino and safety cut blocks allow for repeat printing since once you have carved your image from the block, all that's left to do is re-ink, and voila, mass production of Christmas cards.

Although Block printing generally works best with a press, you can still achieve strong, even pressure with your hand or with a brayer (roller).

HELPFUL HINT: Keep in mind that printing gives a mirror image of what is applied to the surface, so your image and lettering should be reversed for legibility.

With thicker paper, it is best to pre-soak your paper and blot it dry so that the ink or paint will adhere better.

You can also try making cards using mixed media. We suggest looking at what you have available first, for example pages of your old sketchbooks or magazines (you can cut out funky patterns from ads, or things like cotton balls and miscellaneous items that you have accumulated), or using Opus' decorative and art papers also offer a great variety in different patterns and textures. This is where anything and everything goes!

The base to all great card making is a blank card—to save you time and effort, Opus carries Strathmore blank greeting cards, which now come in sets of 100 which are very handy. The coloured deckle edges also add a wonderful accent to your cards. On sale this month!
