Artists Create More Than Art

On July 10th, the premiere exhibition for the Blank Canvas Collaboration Project will take place at the Seymour Art Gallery in North Vancouver. Five established Canadian artists—James Picard, Tania Gleave, Natalia Vetrova, Jordan Roberts, and Steve Horvat — will collaborate and breathe life into fifteen blank canvases. Over a two week period these artists will create the series of large canvases which will then be displayed at the Seymour Art Gallery from Tuesday July 25th to Sunday August 13th, 2006.

Steve Horvat, innovator and producer of the project, states his vision this way: “Inevitably, the project is about energy and how the exchange of energies impact what we do; whether consciously or unconsciously.”

The event will be documented by photographers and a filmmaker. Local poets and musicians will perform throughout the process. This undertaking will have an inevitable educational affect upon the public who are invited to observe the creative process. All of these combined elements will directly flavour the work.

The Blank Canvas Collaboration Project is thinking of the future. Exhibitions are already scheduled for cities around the world. The second exhibit will take place in San Francisco, July 2007, and another exhibition is in the developmental stage for Prague in 2008. For details visit www.stevehorvat.com/BCCP.htm
