Artswest Society

This Surrey society invites artists to their how-to demonstrations on the third Monday of the month at the Bear Creek Pavilion in Bear Creek Park in Surrey, BC. Demonstrations take place at 6:45pm. BC Achievement Foundation

Submissions are being accepted for the 2nd Annual BC Creative Achievement Awards which recognize excellence in applied art and design. Four awards of $5000 each will be presented to emerging and established BC artists or designers, selected by an independent jury. Individuals can be nominated for these awards or they can submit their own work. Deadline is Friday January 20th. The Soho Café is looking for artwork to exhibit. Both solo and group submissions will be accepted depending on the quantity and size of work. Submissions can be made any time. Haida Carving Techniques

The Kelowna Art Gallery's Artist in Residence John Yeltatzie, Haida carver, will hold a workshop on Saturday January 21st from 11:00am-3:00pm. Learn about tree selection, cutting methods, Haida carving techniques and more. Particpants are asked to bring some supplies and there is a registration fee of $15. Centennial Theatre's Call for Submissions

The Centennial Theatre is seeking 2D works of art for exhibit in the theatre lobby. Exhibitions are approximately two months in length between January 2006 and December 2006. Artwork should be at least 36" x 40" and up to 15 very large pieces could be accommodated. Celebration 2010

Art on the Line

UBC Okanagan's Department of Creative Studies and the Visual Arts course union are accepting donations of artwork for their annual Art On The Line fundraiser. This event raises funds for the department's annual trip and the
year-end show for graduating BFA students. This is a juried show accepting submission forms from the public. Gallery Gachet

Two spaces are available for exhibitions at Gallery Gachet located at 88 East Cordova St in Vancouver, BC. Proposals for large shows that would take up both spaces are also accepted. Deadline for proposals is Wednesday February 15th, 2006. Proposals are looked at favourably if you are willing to do an artists talk or programming either on opening night or during the exhibit. The Western Front Society is an artist-run centre that focuses on the production and presentation of exhibitions, performance art, new music, media including video, audio and telecommunications, a bi-monthly art magazine, and more. Ferry Building Gallery

Mixed media submissions will be accepted by The Ferry Building Art Gallery for a three week exhibition entitled WOMAN. The show will be held from Tuesday March 7th to Wednesday March 22nd 2006. The intention of this exhibition is to celebrate women. Jurying will take place at Silk Purse Studio located at 1570 Argyle Ave in West Vancouver, BC on Sunday January 22nd. Cultural Presentations

The City of Vancouver invites artists to perform at the beginning of regular council meetings. These 3-5 minute mini-presentations will reflect the cultural and creative diversity of Vancouver. Presentations will be carried on Shaw Cable, reaching a wide audience of Vancouver residents. Artists will be paid an honorarium for their presentations and appropriate recognition for performance rights will be included. Individual artists both emerging and professional artists, and arts and cultural organizations, regardless of discipline are invited to apply.

All applications are subject to availability of presentation opportunities and to the selection process. Priority will be given to applicants that reside in the City of Vancouver or with the majority of the applicants work taking place in the city. Presentations must be suitable for a daytime television audience and be no longer than 5 minutes. Artistic merit and feasibility of the proposal in the context of the council chambers will also be considered. Blackberry Gallery

Applications are now being accepted for the 2007 exhibition season at the Balckberry Gallery. Both 2-D and 3-D artwork in all media that is enlightening, innovative and has not been previously shown in the Tri-Cities area will be accepted. Alfa Guild Gallery

Visual artists are invited to submit proposals for exhibitions to the ALFA Guild Gallery in Nakusp, BC. Submission requirements include: proposal for exhibit, CV, minimum of 10 slides or photos which are properly labeled and an artist's statement. The Opus Visual Arts Newsletter welcomes submissions related to calls for submissions, fundraising initiatives, art events, and unique art initiatives being undertaken by non-profit visual arts organizations or groups, with a focus on Canadian art practices and events occurring within Western Canada predominately.

We try to include all submissions we receive, however due to space restrictions this is not always possible. Late submissions will be considered for our online newsletter located at www.opusframing.com. Deadline for submissions is the first day of the month prior to publication.
