9th Annual Arts Symposium 2006

We all know what it's like: inspiration strikes and we lock ourselves away in our studios. Unlike most other professions where there is the opportunity to meet other like minded people and share ideas, artists have few opportunities to network with other artists, share ideas and acquire new skills. After all, we are busy working in our studios.

With this in mind, the North Shore Arts & Culture Commission is pleased to announce the 9th Annual Arts Symposium 2006. This annual event includes informative presentations and hands-on workshop sessions for local artists and arts groups in all disciplines. This is a popular and well-received forum for the arts community to meet, take part in a variety of educational workshops, network, exchange ideas, form partnerships and debate issues. Coincidentally it's also a great excuse for us to poke our noses outside our studios to revitalize our thinking and learn new skills.

Alma Lee, the retiring Artistic Director and Founder of the Vancouver International Writer's Festival, will give this year's keynote address. As well, there are some interesting discussions and learning opportunities such as Carnival Arts & Culture: Exploring the interconnection between arts, public celebration and community spirit, Fundraising for the Arts: Going beyond government grants, and Introduction to Monoprinting from Opus Framing & Arts Supplies. There are more sessions available that touch on all disciplines in the arts including the literary and performing arts.

Make plans to participate in this year's symposium, meet other artists, learn something new, and maybe start a new project or two. To register, or for further details, contact the Arts & Culture Commission at 335 Lonsdale Avenue in North Vancouver, call 604-980-3559 or email nsarts@telus.net
