Artists or artist teams are invited to submit letters of interest for the opportunity to develop a community-based art project for the grounds of Hastings Elementary Community School in Vancouver, BC. The artist must be a resident of BC and demonstrate experience in community-engaged outdoor artwork. The successful project will incorporate a collaborative aspect, with students from Hastings School and community members or organizations. Call for Submissions: The Maple Ridge Art Gallery invites artists to submit work for the exhibit Honey I Shrunk the Artwork from Wednesday November 9th to Tuesday November 28th, 2006. The Amelia Douglas Gallery at Douglas College is seeking submissions from 3D visual artists for upcoming exhibits. This free self-guided tour of art studios in the Power River Area stretches from Lund to Stillwater on the Upper Sunshine Coast of BC. This multi-disciplinary arts festival in Wells, BC takes place Friday August 4th to Monday August 7th with a line up of artists and performers. The festival boasts performances on three different stages and exhibitions at venues all over town featuring over 100 artists in music, peformance, spoken word, visual arts, literary arts and everything in between. The Armstrong Spallumcheen Art Gallery in Armstrong, BC welcomes entries in two upcoming community exhibitions. The 18th Annual Ribbon Show runs from Thursday August 31st to Friday September 29th, 2006. Okanagan and Shuswap artists are invited to submit up to one work in each of eight categories: oil, watercolour, acrylic, pastel, mixed media, portrait, drawing and 3D sculpture. Another community show, From Field to Table, runs from Thursday October 5th to Friday November 3rd, 2006. Okanagan and Shuswap artists are invited to use any media to celebrate the abundance that comes from the land around us. This exhibition is open to any media. The Muse invites female artists, musicians, writers, actors/actresses to submit work for their first event on Friday September 22nd, 2006. Artists may submit small works of art, musicians may perform in a solo or duet, actresses may perform a monologue and writers may read from their work. The event is a Bohemian black-tie bash. Everyone will be encouraged to come wearing a tie in any fashion or on any part of their body. There will be door prizes for the most innovative fashion use of the black-tie. This 4-part series of printmaking workshops will be held at Tuktu Studio at the Golden Horn subdivision in Whitehorse in September. The workshops will cover a wide range of techniques and the use of etching and letter presses. Instructors will include Peter Braune (Vancouver), Evon Zerbetz (Alaska), John Steins and Joyce Majiski (Yukon), and Jordi Roses/Pilar Lloret from Spain. The workshops are all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Each workshop is preceded by a Thursday evening orientation and slide lecture which will take place at Arts Underground. The slide lecture portion of these evenings are open to the public. Demystifying the Print takes place September 1-3rd, Surface and Type takes place September 8-10th, More than Scratching the Surface takes place September 15-17th and Beyond the Etched Plate takes place September 22-24th. For those with little or no previous printmaking experience, it is recommended that you take the introductory workshop Demystifying the Print before you take any of the other workshops. Access Artist Run Centre and Powell Street Festival Society present Lost and Found, a group exhibition by artists Haruko Okano, Judy Chartrand and Wayde Compton. The Kelowna Art Gallery will be hosting a special exhibition by internationally recognized Japanese art duo Novaia Liustra. Yoshihisa Nakano and Masayuki Yasuhara will be at the Gallery for a two-month artist residency. During their stay they will create an installation in the Kiwanis Hall titled Caf¬é Liustra (Kelowna) that will be a large ˆécaf¬é spaceˆ¢ using wine, tea, plants, old clothes and music to reference social meanings and histories specific to Kelowna. Community participation is key to the success of this project. Local residents are asked to participate through a series of workshops and by donating items. The art instructor will plan, and facilitate a wide range of art classes: drawing, painting, clay and collage. The successful candidate must be creative, dependable and organized, and have a passion for working with children. The successful candidate will be hired by the NVRC. Although most classes needing coverage are taught at the Harry Jermone Facility, the candidate may be asked to work at any of the NVRC facilities.
Qualifications: Creative, positive, hard-working and knowledgeable in many art mediums. Minimum 1 year experience working with children. Ability to work independantly.
