Painting on the Edge

Painting on the Edge is an international, juried painting competition sponsored by the Federation of Canadian Artists (FCA) and Opus Framing & Art Supplies. The purpose of this exhibition is to present an interesting group of contemporary paintings by both emerging and professional artists. Unlike many other painting competitions, Painting on the Edge is not medium or subject specific, in fact we hope for a wide range of entries. The 2006 prospectus is available online at www.artists.ca, at the Federation Gallery on Granville Island at 1241 Cartwright Street or at any Opus location.

We are very happy to confirm that even more prize money is available to be won this year. The Grand Prize is $2,500. As in years past, Opus continues to support artists by providing three very special awards—three $1,000 shopping sprees in framing, surfaces and paints & mediums at any Opus store of the winner's choosing. The FCA and Opus encourage artists to take up the challenge of Painting on the Edge 2006 and enter the show. This exhibition is a great opportunity to present your work to the world.

Eligibility Criteria /
Call for Entries:

This competition is open to all living artists worldwide. Entries must be original, not copies, derivatives or based in any way on other copyrighted or published paintings, photographs or other artistic works. They must be entirely the work of the entrant, executed without the supervision of an instructor and created within two years of the entry deadline. Works must not have previously been exhibited in any other FCA exhibition.

This annual exhibition is open to artists working in any painting, printmaking or drawing media. Abstract, expressive, impressionist or realist styles are all welcome. Successful entries will combine an original subject or concept, feature excellent composition and skillful use of the chosen medium. They will capture the jury's interest and excite or move the viewer because they represent the artist's imagination, involvement and sincerity.
