From its humble beginnings as one person's passion to a membership of 200 artists, Basic Inquiry has been the hub of life drawing in Vancouver for 20 years. The Vancouver Life Drawing Society encourages the appreciation and production of figurative art through a variety of drop-in classes. For the last 20 years, Basic Inquiry has been located on Main Street in Vancouver but as of January 30th, they relocated to 460?380 West 1st Avenue near Maynards Auction House and the Cambie Street Bridge in Vancouver. Their larger, heated studio space features South and West facing windows as well as two skylights, providing plenty of natural light. The improved studio is easily accessible by transit or by car with plenty of parking nearby.

Drawing the human form can be a difficult subject to master. Through a variety of classes, artists from all skill levels are welcome to practice and strengthen their drawing abilities in a friendly and informal atmosphere. From short, 2-5 minute poses to 3+ hours of posing, there are classes available to suit your interests and
challenge you.

Basic Inquiry is a non-profit organization and completely volunteer-run. They have reasonable rates for both drop-in and members. Members of the Vancouver Life Drawing Society receive an immediate saving of $2 on drop-in session prices. Members also receive: savings on session tickets and monthly passes, a place to display their work on Basic Inquiry?s website, the opportunity to apply for a solo show at Basic Inquiry Studio, and a chance to exhibit work in the annual members show. Members can also run for office on the Board of Directors. The yearly membership fees are $40 or $20 for students.
