Langley's Art Week

Feast your eyes on the vibrant palette of the arts in Langley and Fort Langley from August 13th to 20th. On Saturday August 13th, artists will be creating art in the streets followed by a reception and auction, while Sunday offers the opportunity to visit artists in the wineries. The week offers an Arts Walk with passports available from most local businesses, or stop by in the evening for many gallery openings. Saturday August 20th is Arts Alive in downtown Langley where Fraser Highway is closed and artists display their artwork. Don S. Williams Award

This annual $2,000 award assists one or more North Shore artists in their chosen field and is awarded from the Fund for the Arts on the North Shore (FANS). Eligible artists must be active in their particular discipline and intend to pursue a future in that discipline. Applicants must be a resident on the North Shore or have the majority of their creative work take place on the North Shore. The deadline for the award application is Thursday August 18th at 3:00pm. Sidney Fine Art Show

Artists are invited to submit their work for consideration for the 2005 Sidney Fine Art Show held Friday October 14th to the 16th at the Mary Winspear Centre in Sidney, BC located at the corner of Hwy 17 and Beacon Avenue. This juried show offers over $6000 in prizes awarded at the show preview for artists. Art Route

The Queen Charlotte Islands Art Route, a self-guided studio tour, takes place from June to September 2005. With more than 40 artist studios and galleries to visit, each island community offers a chance to meet artists who work in a wide range of media from traditional Haida carving to oil, acrylic and watercolour painting. Look for the AR logo in studio windows. Pick up the free Art Route brochure from Queen Charlotte Visitor Info Centres or participating galleries. Arts on The Edge

Kimberley's festival of the arts, Arts On The Edge, is being held Friday August 12th to Sunday August 14th. Activities include a juried art exhibition, live music, poetry, buskers, dancers, theatre, a lantern parade, demonstration tents, art market, and more. WildLights Lantern Festival

The North Vancouver Community Arts Council is looking for volunteers to help with their annual WildLights Lantern Festival August 19th. Volunteers will assist with crowd management, traffic control and parade set up. Experience the parade first hand and help create an amazing community event. A series of Lantern Making Workshops will also take place in July and August in anticipation of the festival. Drop-in balloon lantern workshops will be held Saturday August 6th from 10:00am-5:00pm at Capilano Mall and on Saturday August 13th from 10:00am-5:00pm at Park Royal South. These workshops are by donation. Star and Box Lantern Workshops for ages 6 to adult will be available by Registration with a $10 fee. These two-day workshops will be held from 10:00am-1:00pm on both days. One workshop will be held Saturday August 6th and Sunday August 7th at Christie House with another at Highlands United Church on August 13th and 14th. Artisans 2005

Island artisans invite the public to their show and sale of traditional and contemporary arts and crafts at the Mary Winspear Cultural Centre located at 2243 Beacon Avenue in Sidney, BC. Eileen Fong Co-Op Gallery

This new gallery invites artists to submit artworks with the theme The Four Seasons to be shown in its new 1,888 sq ft Tinseltown location. All media except photography will be accepted. Entries can be digital files or original artwork. A $5 entry fee per entry with a maximum of 6 entries per artist is required for non-members. En Plein Air

The Agassiz Artisan Gallery, a not-for-profit gallery, is sponsoring an en plein air workshop with Jack Reid. The workshop's will be held Thursday August 25th to Saturday August 27th from 10:00am-4:00pm at the Minter Gardens located outside of Chilliwack BC at exit 135 on Hwy #1. Workshop fees are $295 with a $100 deposit due at registration. Place Des Arts' Call for Entry

Place des Arts, a multi-disciplinary arts centre in Coquitlam, invites talented new artists to submit artwork for their 2006 exhibition season. Place des Arts offers unique gallery spaces where local emerging artists may exhibit and sell their works in any media. To be considered for this year's exhibitions, artists must complete an application and forward a CV/resume, 5-10 high quality images (slides, photographs or digital images), a list of images and a self-addressed stamped envelope. Britannia Gallery Project

The Gallery project is seeking submissions for exhibitions in 2006 in its newly renovated exhibition space. Submission deadline has been extended to Thursday September 15th, 2005. The Gallery project accepts submissions in all 2 and 3D media from emerging and established artists, curators and community groups who live or have their studio in the catchment area of Britannia Community Centre (Broadway to Burrard Inlet, Nanaimo to Main Street). There are two components to the gallery space: the walls and the glass case. Artists may submit proposals for the walls, the case or for both. The Gallery Project pays exhibition artists an honorarium, produces and distributes invitations and hosts an opening reception. A completed application form must be included in every submission. Port Moody's Studio Space

The City of Port Moody encourages professional artists to base their art practice in Port Moody. The Rocky Point Warehouse is a collection of individual studios for professional artists to create work. It is owned and operated by the City of Port Moody. Its primary purpose is to accomodate professional artists working in a wide range of media. In addition to meeting individual artists' needs, the Warehouse provides opportunities for the sharing of ideas between other artists and also with the broader community through activities such as studio tours. The North Shore Community Arts Council is looking for artists for the exhibition component of the 2005 FANS Night Event. Gallery Gachet's Way to Bakersfield

Gallery Gachet presents the exhibition, Way to Bakersfield, from August 5th to September 4th, 2005. The opening reception is August 5th from 7:00-10:00pm. Bakersfield lies on Route 66 in the US and has developed a mythical reputation as a sort of Gotham City destination for the depraved, down and out, lost souls and accidental tourists. The theme also refers to "Streets of Bakersfield", a song made famous by Dwight Yoakam. The show will highlight a very hillbillyish/folkish/freakish atmosphere. Outlandish and cultish in nature, it looks to explore some of the darker spots in the human psyche, including alientation and the empowerment that can come from it at times. Artful Reflections

Art for Kids' Sake 2005

This fundraising and awareness building campaign brings together the talents of the vibrant Okanagan art community, and hundreds of Okanagan children in need who either already have, or are waiting for a Big Brother or Big Sister in their life.

Interior Savings Art for Kids' Sake 2005 is based around a travelling art exhibition, profiling 24 pieces of original art donated by generous Okanagan artists. The public is invited to buy raffle tickets for $10 and to specify the piece of art they would most like to win. At the end of the campaign there is then a separate draw for each individual piece. For a $10 donation you could win a $3,000 unique piece of art for your home or office! The show will be at Picture Perfect in Kelowna from September 1st to 15th , then at Orchard Park Shopping Centre from September 16th - 23rd and finally Quails' Gate Estate Winery from September 25th until the draw date of October 6th, 2005.
