The concept of the Painting on the Edge exhibition, co-sponsored by the Federation of Canadian Artists and Opus Framing & Art Supplies, is to feature art work in a variety of media and genres. Vancouver, at the far western edge of Canada, is home to a vibrant and thriving artistic community. This open, international, juried exhibition is intended to bring a wide range of contemporary painting to our audience and to support artists directly by providing cash awards, by publishing a catalogue for the show and by displaying their works at Federation Gallery, 1241 Cartwright Street on Granville Island, from August 30th to September 18th, 2005.

Artists interested in Painting on the Edge are encouraged to submit works which combine excellence in creative ideas, overall design and composition and technical skill. The 45 artworks selected for Painting on the Edge 2005 will be on view from August 30th. The opening reception, featuring the awards ceremonies, will take place on Thursday, September 1st from 6:00pm-8:00pm. In total, $7,500 worth of cash and prizes will be awarded, including the FCA Grand Prize of $2,000.

Since its inception in 2003, Opus Framing & Art Supplies has generously contributed three unique awards for Painting on the Edge which take the form of shopping sprees for Framing, Paints and Painting Mediums as well Papers and Painting Supports, each in the amount of $1,000. We would like to invite everyone to come and see the show and perhaps consider entering their own work next year!
