Langley Arts Council General Meeting

Langley Arts Council will hold their general meeting on September 15th, 2004 at 7:30pm. The Dean of Humanities of Kwantlen College will be present to discuss increasing awareness of Kwantlen's arts programming at the Langley campus. Everyone is welcome and refreshments will be served. The Main Street area will host this artist run-event highlighting the many artistic and cultural attractions of the Mount Pleasant neighborhood. Artists will have open studios and shared art space during October 2nd and 3rd. Local businesses will also showcase artist's work. Kelowna's Alternator Gallery for Contemporary Art invites submissions for its 2nd annual Wearable Art Gala. Artists are invited to submit drawings, photographs and slides of proposed or previous pieces of wearable art that they have designed from any material. The outfits will be modeled at a gala celebration in March with prizes based on creativity, originality and presentation of work. Submission deadline is October 30th, 2004 with a submission fee of Alternator Gallery membership. Gallery membership is $25 for adults and $15 for students and seniors. Artists are invited to enter the 18th Annual Granville Island Ferries Garbage Can Art Contest and Auction. The first 25 artists to call will be able to register and compete, turning plain metal garbage cans into works of art. Granville Island Ferries supplies the garbage cans, tents, water, power and sheltered areas for spray-painting. Three judges from the local arts community will award first, second, and third prizes. The finished collectibles will be auctioned to raise funds for the art therapy programs at British Columbia's Children's Hospital. For details email Kevin Dale McKeown at

Artists in Our Midst (AOM) is a collective of approximately 75 artists who conduct a three weekend open studio event each spring. AOM is accepting applications for their 2005 spring event. Kiff Holland, internationally recognized artist and Capilano College Faculty Member will be teaching painting in all media, to all levels, at an 18 day Arts Vacation in Spain from May 10-27, 2005. This vacation includes accommodation in a converted old mill in Southern Spain, most meals, several excursions, and daily art classes for $3900 CDN. Registration has begun for the British Columbia Art Teacher's 2005 Conference Art Works. It will take place in Burnaby at Moscrop Secondary on February 24th - 26th, 2005. This year the conference targets includes: art making, art careers, focus on clay, art and literacy, master teacher as mentor and more. Keynote speakers will be Shari Graydon (media educator), Ross Penhall (artist), Joane Cardinal-Schubert (artist/educator) and Bing Thom (architect). Visit

The Fraser River Discovery Center hosts this 2nd annual event featuring works by local artists. The event takes place on September 25th and 26th, 2004 from

North Vancouver Arts and Cultural Commission presents FANS Night Arts Gala on September 25th, 2004 at 7:00pm. This Arts Gala and Fundraising event takes place at the North Vancouver Municipal Hall located at 355 Queens Road West. This year two oustanding North Shore artists will be honoured with the FANS Recognition Award—Sculptor Michael Binkley and Producer, Director, Actor, Choreographer and Writer Don S. Williams. West Point Grey Community Centre offers opportunities to meet and work with other creative souls. Join their Life Drawing classes to draw or paint nude models in a relaxed but serious environment. Classes are on Mondays, starting September 13th to December 6th from 10am - 1pm. $120 for 12 sessions or $12 for drop-in. Their Painters' Arts Studio is a shared space to work on your art with other artists.
