Ever wondered what Vancouver would look like through the eyes of such celebrated artists as Van Gogh or Degas?

Students in the 2005 graduating class of the Capilano College Illustration and Design Program (IDEA) have taken on this very inspired art project. To showcase the beauty of Vancouver, each student selected a familiar local scene and painted in the style of well-known artists of the 19th and 20th centuries. The result is a visually stunning 13-month calendar with a unique look at Vancouver through the eyes of the past and brought to life by the eyes of the future.

Celebrating Vancouver's diverse and beautiful city, this calendar is a timeless piece to share. Each month depicts a familiar location, from Granville Street at night to a sunny afternoon outside the Vancouver Art Gallery. All of the original paintings were done in oil or acrylic. The calendar includes brief artist biographies, Canadian and US holidays, and the lunar cycle. The closed dimensions of the calendar are 14" x 11" and the open dimensions are 14" x 22". Each calendar comes individually shrink-wrapped with a protective card insert and is printed in Canada.

This project, from the original paintings and production to the marketing and distribution, is the work of the students. The project is integrated into the curriculum in order to support fundraising efforts for student initiatives, and to provide hands-on marketing and project management experience.
