Publishers and authors are invited to submit entries for the 16th Annual City of Vancouver Book Award. Books of any genre, which demonstrate excellence and contribute to an appreciation and understanding of Vancouver's history, unique character or achievements of its residents, are eligible for the $2000 award. The winning book will exhibit excellence in content, illustration, design and/or format. Deadline for entries is June 16th, 2004. The Horticultural Center of the Pacific (HCP) will once again host the South Vancouver Island Potter's Guild Pottery in the Garden Show & Sale on June 13th, 2004, 10am-4pm. This year's theme is "Gnomes and Garden Creatures". Stroll through the HCP gardens and enjoy exceptional clay works by many of Vancouver Island's local potters. Stay after the parade to enjoy the Buskers Festival featuring a variety of entertainment, musicians, face painters, mimes and magicians who will line the downtown streets and provide wonderful sights and sounds for the duration of the afternoon. Please note that there may be some temporary road closures along Fraser Highway to accommodate the parade.

Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgendered (GLBT) artists are invited to submit art for this year's Pride In Art Exhibition. This year's theme, "Two Spirits One Heart" looks at personal and global histories as Two Spirited People (GLBT). This community exhibit is open to all artists who identify as GLBT; accepted submissions will not be limited to the theme. Submission deadline is July 1st, 2004 and there is a $15 administration fee. This organization is accepting applications for 2004/05 at the Newport Gallery in Squamish. Exposure for a one month exhibit includes the local population, tourist traffic, and Vancouverites traveling to and from Whistler. Prop Masters Maureen Mackintosh and Kristen Sands teach The Elements of Props-Making - Made Simple. Participants will learn the basic prop-making techniques used in theatre, while designing and constructing four ornate wall-hanging masks in this two-week intensive course running from July 5th to 16th, from 9am-3:30pm. North Vancouver RecCentres have released a call for proposals for a public art banner project which will promote the 2010 Olympics. The Olympics are a key opportunity for North Vancouver to reveal its cultural heritage to the world and to demonstrate that they are a rich resource for understanding the link between art and the city.
