Eco-House Fine Art Products

Health and safety in the studio is a concern amongst all artists. Eco-House Inc., a Canadian-owned art supply manufacturer found their niche market in 1997, and so began their production of safer products. Since 1997, Eco-House has offered a line of natural thinners, solvents and mediums, all devoted to reducing negative health effects associated with traditional fine oil painting supplies.

A selection of Eco-House Natural Products include their #115 Extra Mild Citrus Thinner (their top-selling product at Opus), Damar Resin, and Damar Medium and Varnish, both of which are mixable with other Eco-House products to achieve desired consistencies. They also have the #915 Natural Orange Terpene Solvent — a strong solvent that easily dissolves Damar Resin, and can replace turpentine if required.

Eco-House researches and develops traditional time-proven formulations and works towards their improvement by using the purest components available. Through using cosmetic and pharmaceutical-grade solvents combined with food-grade orange terpenes, the solvent action is increased reducing the risk of skin allergies common to pine resin derived turpentine.

Products of Eco-House have "zero" aromatics content and a flashpoint greater than 142° F or 61.1° C, exempting them from hazardous goods transportation rules. They are accepted by the American Environmental Protection Agency, and the Occupational Health & Safety Administration for safe use in art schools.

The Emily Carr Institute in Vancouver was one of Eco-House's first Canadian customers. Eco-House has been influential in reaffirming the importance of environmental and health safety, which has lead hundreds of artists to use their products, in classroom settings and in their personal studios.

Opus is proud to carry Eco-House Inc.'s most popular products, as an alternative to the more hazardous products often found in artists studios. Please ask our staff for further information on these great Canadian products.
