The City of Vancouver?s Public Art Program Manager, Bryan Newson, will provide an overview of the city?s Public Art program, based on the art projects that could be possible in Langley or other communities. How governments, community groups and artists can work together to create the support needed for successful public art programs will also be discussed. The Vancouver Island Mayworks Project invites artists to submit entries in all media dealing with the general theme of people at work. This will be a juried group exhibit held at the Oceanside Community Arts Council in Parksville for May 2005. Artists may submit no more than 6 slides (no photos) plus video if applicable. The Granville Island Cultural Society invites artists to submit proposals to show their work at the Waterfront Theatre Gallery Lounge for the 2005 season. Artists must have a significant body of work in order to fill wall space or submit a proposal for a joint exhibition with another artist. The African Conservation Foundation (ACF) is teaming up with artist Daniel Taylor to raise funds for the conservation of 3 endangered specis in Africa. Taylor will be painting lions, gorillas and elephants in acrylics with 100% of the sales going directly to the ACF to fund the conservation of these endangered animals. Taylor will be painting at Coquitlam Chapters where people can have the opportunity to watch him work and ask questions. For details visit

The Community Arts Council of Kamloops invites the public to lend toys and decorations from Christmases past for inclusion in this year's Nostalgic Christmas exhibition also featuring a Gingerbread Decorating contest. The exhibition runs from December 16th - 29th, 2004 at the Cunliffe Gallery located at 262 Lorne Street in Kamloops. The Open House for this event will be held December 16th from 5:00pm - 7:30pm. This exhibition is free and entries can be dropped offf at Cunliffe House on December 14th - 15th.
