Painting on the Edge

This first annual exhibition, presented by the Federation of Canadian Artists should prove to be exciting and inspiring. This open juried exhibition of paintings and drawings in any media is open to all Canadian and international artists. Opus is pleased to be able to work with the FCA in making this a yearly event for FCA members and the public alike to participate in and enjoy.

Painting on the Edge will offer $5,000 in prizes including three unique Opus Awards. The Opus Awards are three $1,000 art supply shopping sprees at an Opus store location of the winner's choosing. The three prize categories are: $1,000 of fine art framing; $1,000 of fine art papers and painting supports; and $1,000 of paints and painting mediums.

These fine art categories represent three unique areas of Opus: Many of you know of our unique framing services - our very first frame, the Opus Metal Exhibition Frame, is still one of our most popular frames amongts artists, galleries and museums. We also take pride in the line of artist papers we have developed, with the newest addition being the Opus European Watercolour paper. Finally, our selection of paints and mediums includes Gamblin, Golden and Daniel Smith products, among many other artist-quality materials.

The FCA is proud to have world-renowned watercolourist Christopher Schink as their guest slide juror. Christopher Schink is an elected member in both the National Watercolour Society and the West Coast Watercolour Society, as well as an honourary SFCA member of the Federation of Canadian Artists. Christopher has been a favourite instructor at the FCA popular Salt Spring Workshops.

The FCA and Opus hope that all artists who meet the eligibility criteria will be inspired to take on the challenge of the first annual juried exhibition of Painting on the Edge. Please contact the Federation of Canadian Artists, 1241 Cartwright St, Vancouver, BC at 604-681-8534, email: fca-admin@artists.ca or visit their website at www.artists.ca for more information on this exciting exhibition opportunity.
