Chroma Mural Paints

We've received some great response to our new line, Chroma Mural Paints. Christiana, a member of our Granville Island Store staff recently heard some excellent feedback from a teacher in the Surrey area:

"She recently completed a project with her students, that included painting a sea themed mural on an old container car. The teacher stated that the colours were incredibly vibrant, easy to mix and paint with. She was very enthusiastic about the end result."

So if you need large quantities of reasonably priced paint to produce very large works in an exterior location, this multi-purpose acrylic paint is perfect. It is water-resistant, moisture-resistant, and lightfast, making it ideal for outdoor art. The bright, opaque colours are ready to use, non-toxic, and clean up with soap and water. It mixes well allowing you to achieve just about any colour you need.

Check them out in our online store.

And speaking of murals, check out these amazing trompe-loeil creations by John Pugh at the World News.

I have a chance to do an outdoor mural on a metal hyro box. Will your Chroma Mural paints stand up for this job? There may be a baked on surface to the metal. What do you think?

Hello,

Painting on metal is often a tricky proposition; you can buy paints specifically for this purpose.

You can use any acrylic paints, however; the secret of success is in how you prepare the surface.

Make sure the surface has been thoroughly cleaned of all loose dust, dirt or other debris, and that there is no oily residue of any kind.

You will then need to sand the surface so that the subsequent primer and paint coats will adhere properly.

Apply a coat of metal primer according to the maker’s instructions.

Finally, do your painting in the Chroma Mural paint or acrylic paint of your choice.

A final precaution is to apply a sealer rated for exterior use.

Happy painting,
Ruth

Hi, Thanks for getting back to me re: the Chroma Mural paints. As I have started the project, I have another question. Is there a retarder I can use with the Chroma Mural paints? I find they dry so fast outside, it is diffucult to get a good blend happening. I don't want to compromise the integrity of the outdoor paint however, so I thought I should ask you before trying a retardent.
Thanks,
melinda
