  • Portrait Drawing with Noah Layne

    In this artist demo, Noah Layne will be using pastel drawing media to do a portrait drawing from life. He will demonstrate an academic approach to drawing, using plumb lines, comparative measurement and the tilt angle. He will also talk about modeling form and how light plays across form.

    Noah is an award winning artist who has shown throughout North America. His work has appeared in Artist’s Magazine and Victoria’s Focus Magazine. Noah was also named one of the 21 artists under 31 to collect now by Southwest Art Magazine.

  • Beyond the Pencil

    Why are there different shades of pencils? How do you use a blending stump? What is a tortillion? Why would I need sandpaper for drawing? What is the difference between willow and compressed charcoal? What is the best paper to use? Explore the wide range of drawing materials available and their uses. This is a perfect demonstration for first year art students and anyone wanting to get their hands messy sampling various products.

  • The Art of Block Printing with Rena Warren

    Rena will be demonstrating the art of blockprinting, from image development to edition completion. She will show how a simple design can evolve into extraordinarily intricate images and how to expand upon this creative tool with multi-colour printing.

    Rena Warren has a Bachelor in Fine Arts at O.U.C. and a Bachelor in Education at UVic. She has over 16 years experience teaching including at Opus, the Kelowna Art Gallery, privately and in the public and private school classroom.

  • Watercolour Landscapes with Frank Townsley

    Join Frank at Opus North Vancouver and learn techniques that will help you overcome hurdles and build confidence in your painting. Subject matter such as aspens, arbutus & evergreen trees, fog & mist, rocks, and waves will be demonstrated.

    Frank Townsley is a Vancouver born and based artist who studied under Paul Souze at the Art Center, College of Design in LA before establishing a freelance practice in design, watercolour and photography.

  • Egg Tempera Workshop with Jack Darcus

    Jack will discuss and demonstrate the materials and practice of painting in egg tempera. This will include the palette of pigments, and the preparation of traditional gesso grounds.

    Jack Darcus has been painting and exhibiting since 1964. He has works in public and private collections in Canada, the USA, Europe, and Asia.
